Shore Excursions

ImageJuneau Alaska:  Experience all of Juneau’s highlights. Upon arriving, our bus will take us to see the major historical sites of the city and hear the interesting tales of Juneau folklore. We are then off to explore picturesque Mendenhall Glacier. This mighty glacier, with its rugged crevasses and distinct blue color, appears deceptively close because of its immense size and is the largest glacier accessible by road. Enjoy the panoramic view of this awe-inspiring glacier and then stroll the walkway to the Visitor Center. We are then off to see if the salmon are running yet at Gastineau Salmon Hatchery. This facility offers amazing information on the life cycle of salmon and the operation of the hatchery. You will also enjoy an up-close aquarium filled with fascinating Alaskan sealife. Finally, enjoy the charming Gold Creek Salmon Bake. There we will be treated to a wonderful buffet with Alaskan-caught salmon grilled over an open alderwood fire, barbequed ribs, baked chicken, Chilkoot baked beans, Tongass wild-rice pilaf, a variety of salads, cornbread, and lemonade. Relax to the music of a local musician in this beautiful rainforest setting. View the Salmon Creek Waterfall and roast marshmallows over a crackling fire. The Gold Creek Salmon Bake Shuttle buses make continuous return trips back to Juneau (a 10-minute ride) where you can shop until time to board the ship.

ImageHighlights of Skagway:  Our Skagway adventure will start with us winding our way through the historical downtown area as we listen to tales of famous characters from the past. We will then make a brief stop in Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp to pan for gold (keep what you find!). Take a quick photo of a giant Malamute—a huge, friendly dog of the Arctic. Our guide will transport us up the Klondike Highway, paralleling the route of the famous White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, on our way to the 3,290’ White Pass Summit (the international boundary between Canada & the U.S.). We will see a 3,000’ waterfall, azure glaciers, Dead Horse Gulch, and Alpine Valley (a great picture stop). We will continue on to the Scenic Overview for an incredible picturesque view of Skagway and our beautiful ship. We will stop at the Gold Rush Cemetery for an enjoyable storytelling of the shooting of Soapy Smith. On our way back to downtown Skagway, we will pass a quaint log cabin LDS Chapel and take a quick photo there. Our bus can drop us off in downtown Skagway or we can stay aboard to be dropped off at the ship just in time for a great lunch onboard the Sun Princess. The afternoon is free to enjoy Skagway which is a shopper’s paradise or to take an afternoon tour.

Salmon Fishing or Ketchikan Highlights:  If you’ve ever dreamed of “reeling in the big one!” in Alaska, now is your chance to try it. You will head off the ship first thing in the morning to the 4-6-passenger fishing boats that are just a short walk from the ship where they will head out to sea for an opportunity of a lifetime. The tour price includes ALL fishing gear, tackle and bait, snacks & beverages, raingear and arrangements for custom fish processing. The actual costs of processing and shipping will be determined onboard and can be paid by credit card. A fishing license is required ($20 per person) and must be purchased as you board for all fishermen ages 16 and older. During King Salmon season (which lasts through the first part of July), a King tag is also necessary if you catch a King salmon (another $10 per person).

All Shore Excursions are optional and may be purchased separate from the cruise rate.
