WELCOME TO THE HOLY LAND!
Day 2
Arrive in Tel Aviv. Transfer to the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day on your own preparing for our journey. If you arrive early enough you can take an optional walking tour of Jaffa (Joppa). Here Peter received his vision leading to the expansion of missionary work to the Gentiles and Jonah attempted to flee from the Lord's presence aboard a ship bound for Tarshish. (Walking tour map provided - lunch on your own.) (D)
Day 3
Today we travel back in time to Caesarea. Here Cornelius the centurion was converted through the instrumentality of Peter. We will also recall the stories of Paul preaching the gospel in the King's Court. Hear again the words of King Agrippa to Paul, "Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian." Not far away the road rises to Muhraqa (Mt. Carmel), site of the prophet Elijah's contest of faith with the priests of Baal. After lunch with members of the fascinating Druze Community, we will visit Megiddo and Nazareth, the quaint, sacred town where Jesus Christ "grew and waxed strong in spirit...". Our next stop is Mt Precipice, and then we will drive by Cana on our way to the Sea of Galilee. We will overnight on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. (B, D)
Day 4
The morning sun finds us onboard a replica of an ancient fishing boat on the Sea of Galileewhere we will hold a Sabbath Day church service. Later, we will visit: Tabgha-site of the miracle of the loaves and fishes; Capernaum-where Jesus lived and recruited His future apostles; and the Mount of Beatitudes. Hear again the words of Jesus offered as He taught the "Sermon on the Mount." Next we visit Caesarea Philippi with its beautiful stream and ancient history of the worshipers of Pan. We will visit Tel Dan where Jeroboam set up a golden calf he made for the people to worship. (B,L,D)
Day 5
Today we start the day with a stop at the Yardenit Baptismal Site, a popular pilgrim site on the banks of the Jordan River. We will have some quiet time contemplating the Savior's baptism and also witness some Christian baptisms. We will then journey to Bet She'an where King Saul and his sons were hung from the walls. Enjoy a lunch break and a refreshing swim at Gan Ha Shlosha National Park. After a short stop at Gideon Springs we finish our day on the Mount of Beatitudes. Hear again the words Jesus offered as He taught the “Sermon on the Mount.” (B, D)
Day 6
Our tour for the days begins as we head south to the caves of Qumran where the precious Dead Sea Scrolls were found. We then visit Ein Geddi where David hid from Saul in the caves there. Not far away is Masada where we ascend by cable car to the spectacular cliff-top fortress, and hear how 960 Jewish zealots preferred death at their own hands within the fortress rather than suffer the indignity of surrender to overwhelming Roman forces. We will take a walking tour of Herod's mighty fortress on the mountain top plateau. After Masada we will arrive at the Ein Geddi Spa and float in the buoyant waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on the surface of the earth. You may even want to try the medicinal mud baths! We then continue on to the sacred city of Jerusalem where we stay for the next three nights. (B, D)
Day 7
This morning we will visit the Holy Land Model, a unique scale model of Jerusalem as it was at the time of Christ. We will discover the treasures of the Israel Museum with the Shrine of the Book, the site chosen to house the priceless Dead Sea Scrolls. We will then visit Yad Vashem, the official memorial to the six million Jews who perished in the Nazi-wrought holocaust in Europe.
In the afternoon we will enter the Room of the Last Supper. Devoid of gilded statues or ornate chapels, the simplicity of this room helps recall the poignant last moments of Christ with His beloved disciples. We will also enjoy other sites in the City of David. We will then journey through Hezekiah's Tunnel for a fascinating experience. (B, D)
Day 8
We travel to Bethlehem where we will look out on Shepherds Fields and visit the Church of the Nativity to feel the spirit of the birth of Christ. We will enjoy a unique lunch in a Bedouin tent restaurant overlooking the shepherds' fields. In the afternoon we visit the House of Caiaphas where Jesus was imprisoned before His final day in mortality. We sit on some of the original stairs leading down into the valley. We then visit the remarkable BYU Jerusalem Center. The view from the full-length windows of the chapel reveals a breathtaking view of the Old City and the Temple Mount. (B, L, D)
Day 9
We start the morning by climbing to Mount Moriah where Solomon's ancient temple once stood. Here on the Temple Mount we visit the Muslim mosque and Muslim shrine - The Dome of the Rock. Winding our way along the cobbled streets of old Jerusalem, we arrive at the Wailing Wall (Western Wall) where we witness several young men having their Bar Mitzvah ceremony. At the Pool of Bethesda we marvel once again at Christ's miracles. We see the area where Antonia Fortress once stood and where Christ was scourged. Our day continues as we visit the Garden of Gethsemane and Orson Hyde Park. We walk among the 2,000 year-old olive grove and feel the spirit here as we envision the events which took place at this sacred site. From the Garden of Gethsemane we travel to the beautiful Garden Tomb, believed to be the site of Jesus’ burial. Next to the Garden, there is a limestone hill which many revere as Golgotha, site of the crucifixion. As the sun sets, we leave the Garden, marking the end of a wondrous day! After our farewell dinner we transfer back to the airport for our return flights to the USA. (B, L, D)
